Bacon Green Beans

When you grow tired of standard vegetable dishes, it’s time to try some unique ways to excite those you are serving. Green beans are a veggie our entire family enjoys.  Typically we buy them fresh and steam them.  Done in 10 minutes, except for the ones I gobble up when snapping off the ends and putting them in the steamer.

To give them a little something extra, get some bacon and slivered almonds, and buy a package or two of frozen French cut green beans (you could make these with fresh ones, too).  Follow the instructions to heat the frozen green beans.  Fry up 4-5 pieces of bacon.  When the bacon is done, leave the juice in the pan.  Pour in 3-4 tablespoons of white wine vinegar.  Stir it around.

Pull the beans out, drain, and place in a bowl.  Chop up the bacon into bits.  Put the bacon on top of the green beans along with the slivered almonds. Mix. Pour the bacon grease/white wine mixture on top. Mix again.

You have a dish that’s more than just beans.  You can serve it at Thanksgiving or take it to a pot luck dinner and talk about it like you actually know what you’re doing when it comes to cooking.  That’s one more advantage when you experiment.
