The best trail mix is the stuff you make yourself. Then you like the taste, you put in the mixtures of things that meet your nutritional desires, and you know it won't grow stale.
The other great thing about creating your personal trail mix is that you can use it as part of a better eating regime. Keep it with you to snack on when sweets beckon. Bring some with you when you travel to avoid those big restaurant meals. Substitute your trail mix for fast food. These are all smart things to do. Here are some that I put together. 1) Yellow raisins, smoked almonds and banana chips. 2) Peanuts, dried cherries and regular M&M's. I keep them simple so that each distinct taste stays with you. If you have a whole bunch of different things in your bag of trail mix, the specific tastes of each stand out. So I recommend limiting what you put in. It's important to not deny yourself. If you like chocolate (me), put some in there so you don't feel like you're being punished. Just measure it so you don't overdo it. Experiment. Find nuts that you like. Try different types of dried fruit in small amounts to see if something new rings you bell. Then create the combo, seal it up and bring it to work. It will be good for your mental and physical state.
